Theo’s here, books and life continues at LSU

It’s been a while (OK a LONG while) since I last updated this blog; since then, I’ve had two more books come out, one with Routledge, this past winter, about the impact of the internet on the news industry in the U.S.:

https://www.routledge.com/Newsrooms-and-the-Disruption-of-the-Internet-A-Short-History-of-Disruptive/Mari/p/book/9780367342975 (which is itself a sequel to my 2019 book about the computerization of the late-20th century newsroom: https://www.routledge.com/A-Short-History-of-Disruptive-Journalism-Technologies-1960-1990/Mari/p/book/9781032338590).

I’d be happy to send you a digital copy of either! Just reach out to me at my gmail: wtmari@gmail.com, or my LSU email, wmari1@lsu.edu, or via @willthewordguy on Twitter, OR my Mastodon account at @willthewordguy@mastodon.social.

My book about the history of the newsroom from the 1920s through the 1960s came out last year, too, with the University of Missouri Press:

It was a runner-up for the 2022 American Journalism Historians Association book prize: https://ajha.wildapricot.org/awardsmemphis, and I’d be happy to also email you a digital copy.

Not to bury the lede/lead, but Theo came in January 2022, and it’s been a whirlwind year for Ruth and I ever since — we spent two months in France with him (and Roux!), first at ICA, then at IFALPES, a language school in Annecy, near the French Alps, where we learned beaucoup Français (though Ruth already speaks a fair bit of it, and very well!) and had some really wonderful adventures as a family, meeting some also wonderful new friends.

(Ruth and Roux near La Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmartre, back in late May 2022)

It’s been a busy fall semester, too, with teaching and research, but we’re excited for what the new year may bring. Please drop me a line, and I’d love to grab coffee or a drink if you’re in the area (my treat, and lunch if you’re a grad student!) and/or do a Zoom catchup. Take care out there.
